Fall 2016 WELCOME BACK

Start of year; Fall 2016

Welcome to our first blog post of year!!

To and my students and familes. Welcome...

This is your 1st blog; done normally on a monthly basis. I will always let you know when it is to be done by adding it in your "lesson plan". When completed, you'll hit "ADD COMMENT", which is located right after the blog. Put in your name. ...any email. Use bensblog@hotmail if you need one. The email field needs to be filled out (even if its not real) Just so it gets sent. Just put your name... any email and under comments; say you've "complete it"  or "hi" in the comment section or saying Done! Is fine. Anything you want. ;-)

THEN JUST PRESS SEND OR ADD COMMENT. Then it's sent to me ; confirming it's been completed.

This blog was long as I needed to explain; normally it's a 5 minutes blog.

It's always best to take care of it at the begining on the month; once I write it in your lesson plan.

Great first few week back for all my students! Let's make sure ALL practice sheets are copied and hole punched in it's own divider; along with 3 or 4 more dividers and a good 100 sheets of loose leaf in your bindee. Please have pencils and a pen available; along with a good eraser. Being set up before I get there; with these things, saves alot of time for our lesson. The lesson is for LEARNING,  not PRACTICING; It's time to learn; but to show that the practicing was done properly that week and the lesson plan was followed by practicing the lesson plan and to practice the days immediately following your lesson.

We are all organized now and we can move right into learning some really fun songs and for beginners, getting comfortable holding and getting your sitting position correct is so important. We need to develop consistancy in how we hold and play the guitar (for guitar students), and sit properly as written down in your lesson plan for all instruments; including piano.

Sit comfortably as shown in your lesson; just make sure both feet can hit the ground (right foot on your footstool for guitar; left foot fully on the ground). For piano, both feet should be flat on ground. Hands and fingers like spider legs. Wrists up. Legs and shoulders, should be shoulder length apart for stability. Just like sports.

Adjust your sitting position right away; so no bad habits are created. Move your seating forward; off the seat, if your feet aren't firmly planted on the ground.

It was alot of information the first day, so just follow your lesson plan and you'll be just fine. The seconds lesson will slow down for questions and to play! ;-)

Don't worry about any mistakes; we are just starting and mistakes can help us learn; so they can be POSITIVE, as long as we act properly when a mistake is made. Correct it, and consistently do it properly; drill it by playing the tricky part; 10x in a row....VERY SLOW...so it becomes natural.

I'm here to help you with that; so don't worry about perfection. We are just starting to learn and learning new things takes time. (Which is why practicing is so important...*especially the days after your lesson while fresh in your head). As long as your putting in your best effort. Together we will GET it. You will GET it. YOU CAN DO IT.

Just go slow and comfortably get back into playing guitar/ piano/ drums; and of coarse any other instruments being played. Just go slow and count outloud!!  AND IN....one measure in and always outloud. Everytime. It will become natural.

It was nice meeting all the new families and the continuing students from previous years past.

Another great year of learning music lies ahead!!

I apologize for anyone that could not get fit in. I still encourage you to put you name on the wait list as times open up and change and getting at the top gives you better options for times whenever you feel like starting or positions open up. For this year; day time, home schooled or for adults on holidays; day time spots are highly encouraged to apply.

Just go to the "Contact me" page on my website or hit "Send message" on this page;  Ben Gaertner's Music Studio. My studio page on Facebook.  I encourage you to follow it to keep up-to-date with your musical education.
Just hit this link;

Happy New Year's Everyone!!

I hope you've had a great vacation. Time with family, friends, no school, nice weather maybe if you left the city...either way... Happy New year!

Now that Christmas is over; we'll put the Christmas songs away for next year and begin where we left off in November.

Everyone has their own personal things they are working on. There will be alot of new learning in the new year and we will also continue to expand on what you were working on just before Christmas.

I'm looking forward to another great new year. Hopefully the weather will be nicer then last year. So far it looks nice.

So let's work hard and have an awesome year of learning! Remember, you can do anything I give you. I'll never give you something you can't do or can't learn how to do. Have faith in yourself and know I'm here to help you learn. Just follow your lesson plan as much as possible and practice slowly and remember I'm here to help.

Sincerely,

Your Teacher

Hi Everyone;

Blogs are done on a monthly basis. Please read it when instructed in your lesson plan and sign-in by commenting. Press "add comment" at the bottom of the blog. Enter your name, an email address and a comment saying you've read it. It will come directly to my phone letting me know when it's completed. I encourage you to get it done right away; at the begining of the month; so it's done and then you can focus on your lesson plan.

Christmas is on its way; and along with the cold weather, it will be here before we know it. :-)
So its time to start on some Christmas songs!!

Students that have just begun; you will learn some really fun songs. You will also continue to work on some of the excercises you are currently working on. Other students will continue to write their songs and work on their present exercises and theory.

We will learn the notes and the chords to various Christmas songs. You will learn how to play the notes (the melody) and the chords. I will show you the songs that we will learn. You can play them every year and you'll just keep getting better and better at them; so it's great to learn some. We will pick songs that are at your current level and songs that will help you with what you are currently working on.

You will also learn how to play the chords; so we can play together and so you can play with other friends or family that play. Which is alot of fun!!

Happy Practicing!! :-) See you next week.

Your teacher,

Ben A. Gaertner

October 2015

Wow! It's already October. Time goes by so fast. It's a good lesson to remember when it comes to practicing, instead of waiting until the 2nd or 3rd day after your lesson, get it done; The Next Day!

Especially any administrative stuff; paper, dividers, practice sheet copies, general organization of older years. This should be done by now. If not, it's stopping you from moving on! Don't keep it off! Do all administrative things and the blog right away after your lesson, so it's done.

As time goes by fast, so will your practicing. Not meaning to practice fast; it just means, start to practice and before you know it, if you practice properly, you'll be amazed how fast you'll learn and how fast time will go. Follow your time lengths on every lesson plan, get it done, don't put things off, and before you know it, your done. Keep that in mind!

Everyone should be now working on their individual goals, following their lesson plans and work on anything that has continued from last year. But at this point, if you have been practicing, we should be working on new stuff. Mostly, on the things we want to accomplish this year. Comment after you read the blog each month. Just put your name, an email and that you "read it" under "comment's" after reading the blog.

Thanks Everyone, See you soon

September 2015

Hi Everyone! Welcome to your monthly blog.

Returning students: REMEMBER! It's your first few weeks back. Take your time and go slowly to get your technique back. For Guitar; counting, holding, placing, sitting position and walking is the most important. For Piano; going slow; counting and watching your sitting position is the most important. These things are the most important to get used to again. Go slow and let those notes ring!

New students/Beginners: Don't worry about mistakes. We never learn if we don't make them! I'm here to help you and to answer your questions. If you have any, write them down so you don't forget to ask me. If you don't understand something, it's ok. I'll see you soon, write it down so you can ask me at our lesson.

Just like the returning students; take your time and don't forget your technique. These things are the most important to learn first.

And everyone; Anything in your binder that's not organized, get organized as soon as possible!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to another great year!

Sincerely,

Hi Everyone,

I'm glad to be feeling better and I hope everyone had a great spring break and Easter holiday.

It's Spring!! Finally...which means we only have three months left; and we all know how fast time fly's.

I will communicate to everyone what we want to accomplish by years end. Everyone will have something specific to get ready to play; and to complete by year end. We will begin working on finishing these goals this week and throughout the month.

Let's get in our 3 times of practicing on the right dates every week; sign-in and have a great finish to a great year!

March 2015

Hi everyone!

Everyone is doing so well and I'm very proud of all of you!! Keep up the good work. Every single one of you have come so far this year.

It's just starting to get nice, apart from the crazy snow we got, so take advantage of the cold weather before it gets really nice out in May.

Nothing much different this month; apart from trying to get your practicing done 3 times a week minimum so we can accomplish your goals before the end of the year.

Remember to sign-in, do the blog every month during the first week and take advantage of practicing the next day after your lesson and the following day also. Then take a day off, but never take more then two days off in a row, or you forget all the little things we learnt during your lesson.

Happy Practicing Everyone!!

Remember three times is the minimum, But 4 or 5 times is much better. It's only 25-45 minutes practices, depending on the student; which really isn't that long. So stay on track so we can accomplish your goals a lot sooner.

Sincerely,

Your Teacher

February 2015

Hi everyone!

We are already halfway through the year!

Apart from trying to get your practicing done 3 times a week minimum so we can accomplish your goals before the end of the year. Practicing the day after (Wednesday) and the next day (Thursday); will surprise you how easier it makes your week. Then choose between Saturday or Sunday; and the last time (the forth time) on Monday or Tuesday. This will make your lessons so great! As long as when you practice; its properly.

You will be surprised how much and how quickly you can learn when you follow your lesson plan.

Look at everything I put down in your binder, read and practice everything.

Remember to sign-in and do the blog at the beginning of every month; I'll put it in your binder to remind you. Never take more then two days off or you will forget all the little things. Get your two practices in a row after your lesson; Wednesday and Thursdays. This should be a weekly goal.

Remember three times is the minimum, But 4 or 5 times is much better. It's only 30-45 minutes practices, depending on the student; which really isn't that long. Start, and before you know it; you'll be done practicing. Stay on track, read your lesson plan and open that binder; so we can accomplish your goals!

Good Luck and Happy Practicing!!

June and Summer 2014

Hello Everyone!

I want to congratulate everyone on a great year! Good job to those who read the blog almost every week.

We're basically done for the year so finish up on your final songs and exercises.

Over the summer enjoy your time off and pick up the guitar or play your piano once or twice a week. That will keep up your technique. That is fine for non-exam students, but exam students should practice at least 3 times a week.

And...
Its the summer, so play something fun!

Exam students; Keep working hard so we can write as soon as possible.

Enjoy the nice weather and ENJOY YOUR SUMMER!!! Again, great job everyone. Way to work so hard! Now enjoy the time off and be proud of what you've accomplished. Lets enjoy the time off but be ready and excited to keep hustling after the break.

See you in September. We start Tuesday, September 2nd 2014.

Thanks Everyone! Your teacher...

Lets still work hard and get the last few months done well.

Lets achieve our yearly goals before its June 30th!

Happy Practicing

March 2014

Hi Everyone

Short and simple this month...

It's cold out still, but soon it will be nice. My best advice is put in your practicing now before it gets nice out. It's still cold so were inside anyways.....right   :-)

You know your yearly goals and what we are aiming to accomplish before the end of the year. So lets dig in now, so you'll be able to accomplish those goals before its really nice. Then June, our last month will be much easier.

Remember, there's only a minimum amount that I ask you to practice and I never will give you more then you can handle; even on a busy week. Practicing only requires three 30-45 minute practice times. Again, that's the minimum, so more is better, but at least this amount will move you forward each week. And really, if you think about it. It's not much, but it will at least move you forward so you can accomplish your goals.

Happy Practicing

Good Luck and Happy Practicing.

January 2014

Happy New Year Everyone!!

The begining of January we will be talking about what goals we want to accomplish before the end of year.

This week we will slowly get you back to remembering about all the good things you've done well in 2013.

Getting your technique back won't take long, but is the utmost importance.

Counting, walking, going slow and just relax. Make your notes ring and really concentrate on how they sound and remember the things we've talked about to make them sound great!

We'll start slow, so don't worry about being perfect again right away, but slowly remind yourself about what you need to work on to achieve your goals.

Looking forward to having a great time in the new year!

Happy Practicing

Ben A Gaertner

P,S, Start off strong!! Practice 4 times minimum a week at your specified times. Practice the day after and the following day also- after your lesson Its all fresh in your head, therefore; its easy to remember everything from the lesson that you need to work on.
